Current Research

My current research looks to understand how adults use online dating technologies to find connection. I use a combination of methods, specifically, interviews, observation, and analysis of online dating spaces, to examine how people negotiate digital communication to represent a sense of self and connect with potential partners. This study considers how people in various communities (including monogamous, non-monogamous, heterosexual, LGBTQ+, and kinky) use mainstream and specialized dating technologies.

If you have done any online dating, I am interested in talking with you!

Interviews are 30-60 minutes and aim to understand your online dating story and digital communication practices, utilizing open-ended questions about language, photos, and app features. You do not have to be actively dating or have an active dating profile to participate in this study. However, if you have an active profile, I would be interested in looking at it or integrating a “think-aloud protocol” where you navigate through the online dating space, swiping, liking, passing, clicking, and/or messaging, while talking through the process. Interviews are conducted in person, on the phone, or online through video chat, and your identity will be kept confidential through a username.
