I am an Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Writing Studies at the University of Washington Tacoma. As a scholar and teacher, everything I do revolves around ways that language is a powerful tool — not neutral or benign.
My scholarship and teaching reflect an interest in the problems generated by the dynamic nature of language, visual imagery, and technology, with a desire to understand how people negotiate identity and online communities. Research in these areas have been published in such journals as Visual Communication, Narrative Inquiry, and The Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy.
My current research focuses on how people use social media to find love and connection in the digital age. Learn more about this research and share your experiences with online dating. If you would like to participate, please email me via this contact form.
